Parallel Ports is a site maintained by the artists Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum. It contains information about their art projects, and news about recent and upcoming activities.
Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum have been an artistic duo since 2001. Their practice could be compared to experimental archaeology: they explore the social meaning of existing objects and documents by method of appropriation and reproduction in a different context. With an interest that goes beyond the horizon of their own discipline, they often collaborate with people from other fields such as archaeology, sociology or activism. Important motifs in their work include questions of authorship, contested cultural and colonial heritage, and the effect of social change on the notion of artisthood itself.
The artists occasionally publish critical reflections on art, culture and social issues at postpolitikak.org
