The Black Whale

THE BLACK WHALE is an exhibition project which departs from the crisis provoked by the accident of the Prestige oil-tanker back in 2002 — which was one of the most intense social and political moments of the last decades in Spain — to contextualize and interpret it on a wider spectre. Taking the oil industry and the multiple factors which surround it as one of the main visible or physical manifestations of contemporary societies, the project opens itself to subjects as diverse as nature exploitation, colonialism, the history of modernity, the myth of an endless progress, maritime commerce, globalization, or war.

Research by Walking - Sala Rekalde

research by walking is a curatorial project developed by Alba Colomo during her residency at Het Wilde Weten in Rotterdam. It centers on the role of artists in the social transformation of the South of Rotterdam - a zone with a large presence of 'creative professionals' - and on how this relates to the urban development policies of the local institutions. The high concentration of artists - and the acclaimed 'creative class' - that live and work in this part of the city, seems to be one of the strategies employed by the local authorities to regenerate the socio-economic environment of the area.

Amikejo

Presentation of the publication 'Amikejo', tuesday 22 May, 20h at Múltiplos in Barcelona.

Amikejo has been produced in coordination with a series of four exhibitions by artist duos, curated by Latitudes (Max Andrews & Mariana Cánepa Luna) at Laboratorio 987, the project space of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, MUSAC (exhibitions by Pennacchio Argentato, Iratxe Jaio & Klaas van Gorkum, Uqbar-Irene Kopelman & Mariana Castillo Deball, and Fermín Jiménez Landa & Lee Welch).

Pre-enactment workshop at MASS Alexandria

From the 28th of March to the 6th of April 2012, we gave a workshop at MASS Alexandria, Egypt, in collaboration with Elke Uitentuis. During this workshop, we focused on the concept of pre-enactment. The unstable transition period Egypt is in right now causes a lot of uncertainty, but also openings for new images of the future. This future could be the one we hope for, or its opposite, a dystopian vision of what is to come. The question is how we, as artists, can contribute to the development of a certain shared vision, a horizon to strive for. By enacting future scenarios in the present, the current politics of our daily lives will be put into another perspective. The goal of pre-enacting is to draw parallels and stimulate discussion on the proposals presented.

Occupy Campaign

On March 2 and 3, an Occupy inspired campaign will take place in the Jan van Galen neighbourhood. Occupy Campaign is not selling anything, nor is it a political party. Occupy Campaign aims to bring politics back to their source: to the neighbourhood and the street. Watch the video below:

Beursplein Hearings

A series of hearings in the artists' tent in Occupy Amsterdam. Fellow Occupiers were interrogated by a rotating panel of four, on the dilemmas of maintaining a radically inclusive and participatory democracy, while keeping order in the camp and dealing with its social problems. The tribunal was set up to become a separate, legislative institution alongside the General Assembly, and to provide the camp with an autonomous space for arbitration. It was also an experiment in developing a structure that could serve as a model for popular tribunals beyond the perimeter of the camp.
