Chat Botxo 2025 - In conversation with Hilary Orange

On Thursday 6 November, we will be in conversation with Hilary Orange, Senior Lecturer in Heritage of Swansea University, about the liminal space between contemporary art and archaeology. This will take place at the Corazón de María archaeological site inside the Bilbao Museum of Reproductions, during the inauguration of the CHAT Botxo conference (Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory). After the discussion there will be a small cocktail on site.

CHAT Botxo takes place from 6 to 9 November, and is hosted by Sergio Escribano and Jaime Almansa. Botxo means “Hole” in the Basque language. CHAT Botxo encourages the synthesis of many topics with an eye to the spaces in between them. Urban dynamics, immigration, labour, industry, trade, tradition, modernity… in short, the unifying thread of the last two centuries; the gears of capitalism. CHAT Botxo aims to fill the botxos (holes, gaps), practical and epistemological, around these topics that contemporary and historical archaeology can help fill.

6 November 2025, 19:00 - Conversation between Hilary Orange and Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum
Location: Corazón de María archaeological site at the Bilbao Museum of Reproductions
Entry: Open to the public.
